Paragliding
The Bir has the second best paragliding stations in the world. The paragliding launch is in the meadows of Billing which only 14kms from Bir. It attracts both Indian and foreign pilots. It only costs around Rs 2500 to 3000. The flying season is from October to November. Sometimes international competitions are conducted her. As they say those who don’t jump will never fly.
Trekking
Being surrounded by Joginder Nagar Valley, Bir is surrounded by mountains. There are many trials made for people to trek. Both long and short trials. Since the place is for ecotourism, the trials are marked with directions so that tourists don’t get lost. As they say, to walk in nature is to witness a thousand miracle.
Meditation
Since the Bir has it’s share of Tibetan refugees, the place has many Buddhist monasteries. This adds a spiritual value to this village. Many people from around the world come to do meditation and some soul searching. One of the best monasteries is Sherabling Monastery. This monastery is known for the union of study and practice. They released an international album ’sacred Tibetan Chants’.
Tea tasting
Like all the hill stations, Bir has it’s vast tea plantations and estates. And they offer tea tasting. It is often said that unlike coffee, wine or beer, tea is the most subtle and gentle one. It takes you down the memory lane. During tea is a personal experience. Taste the Himalayan kava tea, Himalayan rose tea, tandoor chai and many other types available.
Local market
The local Tibetan market is a must visit. The smell of local foods being cooked will just make your tongue water. And not to say the colorful stalls. They have a lots of handmade souvenirs to take back home. The sweaters and blankets are of export quality. And wooden items are antique. The raw perfume from Bir market is unique and costs very less. This is a place where you can’t hold back.
